Uniform & Badges

Scouts wear:

  • Long-sleeved scout shirt with necker (kept from Beavers)
  • Navy-blue activity trousers
  • Necker secured with woggle or friendship knot (instructions here)

The uniform is an important part of Scouting as it helps young people feel they belong to the worldwide family of scouts and reminds them of their Scouting journey, as they can see their achievements in the form of the badges that they sew onto their uniforms.

Cubs who have recently moved up to Scouts should wear their Cub jumper and necker (where possible) until they have a Scout Shirt.

When transitioning from Cubs, transfer these badges to the scout shirt: purple membership badge, District and County badges, and the most recent Joining in Award. See our badge placement guide for details.

Scouts should have their shirt for their investiture, which takes place a few weeks after joining. Typically several scouts are invested together. See out investiture page for more information on Investitures.

Uniform for weekly meetings

All scouts, after being invested, should wear their uniform when attending Scout meetings. Scouts may wear shorts rather than trousers if they prefer and footwear should be appropriate for the type of meeting (i.e. indoor / outdoor).

Uniform for church services and parades

When participating in church services, parades or events were we are representing Scouting in the community, Scouts should wear their shirt, blue activity or smart dark trousers rather than shorts. Ideally, with smart polished shoes and a pressed necker secured with a woggle or friendship knot.

Informal items of clothing

Informal items of clothing such as our group hoodies and polo shirts can be worn during camps/residential events. More information on purchasing hoodies and polo shirts can be found here.
